Forward Progress

Friday, I was eligible to enroll in classes again for the Fall semester. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, I could not enroll in Physiology 335 as I had hoped. Genetics 466 was my back up and that will be the course I take this fall to maintain student status in the event I might be able to still get in to physiology in the spring.

This fall will be busy as the following are on my calendar:

Class MWF 1:20
Discussion M 3:30

Frisbee at Werner Park Tuesdays at 7pm

Soccer with ASB Wednesdays

Other goals for this fall include sitting the GRE, perhaps touring a facility or speaking with someone in the field, continuing to shorten my list of programs I'd like to apply to, and reading more about the topic to better understand my interests.

Introduction

I write this introduction with an end goal of a career in the drug development and pharmaceutical industry.

I am a long ways from that...

I am 28 and attempting to fulfill my return to school. After years of trying to figure out what I want to do, I have decided that my skill set and interest levels match up with the pursuit of a pharmacology/pharmaceutical sciences PhD.

An arduous and intense journey unravels before me, but I have the most determination and motivation that I think I ever will to ignite the fire that will carry me through the process.

I have been doing a lot of research, about programs, about advice on whether or not to pursue a PhD or graduate school and various blog sites.

One in particular that I want to note is http://pgbovine.net/early-stage-PhD-advice.htm
which I stumbled upon one day during an intense google search. This author seems to have a lot of insight into the process and even wrote a memoir about his experience over 6 years. That's a lot of dedication and reminiscing!

For now, this is all I've got but I plan to maintain this to some degree and this should keep me accountable for goals and achievements I set for myself in the coming weeks, months, and years!
